Our History: The Upper Room has been active since 1967, providing housing and meals for many of Victoria's inner-city families. It is a registered non-profit charitable society with an interdenominational Christian base.

Since 1986, the Open Door has provided a drop-in centre for the inner-city family of Victoria as an outreach ministry of the United Church of Canada.

Our Place Society, the alliance of the Open Door and Upper Room, became a registered non-profit charity in June of 2006. We have built a new facility for our combined operations. The construction of this building has been possible through federal and provincial grants totalling $7.3 million and from the generous support of private donors, the Real Estate Foundation of B.C. and the Victoria Foundation.

Since April 7, 2008, the dining room, transitional housing, drop-in centre, hygiene area, clothing room and administration offices have been operating under one roof at 919 Pandora Avenue. In the months ahead we look forward to expanding our programs with a focus on giving people a hand up, not just a hand out. Please consider being a part of the creation of a healthy community by supporting our work with a donation toward our ongoing operating costs.
