Position Overview

This position provides case management support for residents at New Roads Therapeutic Recovery Community. Using the tools of the Therapeutic Community Model, the Driver supports the residents by escorting/supervising them to appointments and attending community programming.

This position, under the supervision of the Director of New Roads participates in supporting the outing activities and needs of residents in the New Roads program.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drive residents to appointments (medical, probation, court, support groups etc,)
  • Maintains related records in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Performs routine inspections and maintenance duties on vehicles and related equipment, such as cleaning and fueling vehicles, lights and tires and fluid levels. Recommends vehicle and equipment repairs.
  • Ensures safety of passengers by performing duties such as ensuring safety compliance with safety precautions such as wheelchairs, seat belts are secured.
  • Uphold the principles and values of New Roads by demonstrating respectful behavior to all staff and residents.
  • Attend Morning, Evening, Celebration and House Meetings as per schedule.
  • Attend staff meetings and possibly case conferences and provide input as it relates to issues surrounding the role of Driver at New Roads.
  • Role model behavior expectations of dress, daily work habits, interpersonal communication, positive attitudes, temperament, emotional self-management, and adherence to facility rules
  • Adopt and support the attitude the entire philosophy of the TC by understanding that every activity is therapeutic, that the goal of every activity is designed to advance the personal growth of individuals
  • Promote use of community by utilizing behavioral re-enforcers and extinguishers
  • Support aftercare/continuing care plans by driving residents to appointments, meetings, etc.
  • Build rapport with residents
  • Drive on request for all OPS needs
  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic rapport with resident
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Work independently and in cooperation with others
  • Organize and prioritize

Qualifications

Education and Knowledge:

  • Grade 10
  • Valid BC Driver’s License Class 4

Training and Experience:

  • A minimum of 6 months of experience as a driver or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract record

Working Conditions:

Shifts: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.

Compensation: $17.67 to $18.82 per hour.

Benefits: Excellent benefits after successful completion of 3 months of full-time employment. 6% vacation rate accrued (3 weeks’ vacation annually).

This position requires union membership and is a temporary position in coverage for a medical leave.
