Group Volunteering

Our Place loves to have volunteer groups engage with our organization. There are a variety of activities which are appropriate for groups of 4 to 12 individuals (age 19 and over). We can also accommodate larger groups occasionally. The volunteer experience typically includes a tour of the facility with a discription of our services and how we help our community. If time allows, a family member (client) may speak with the group about their life experience and answer questions.

Volunteer activities include:

  • Sponsoring a meal (minimum donation required, see Sponsor-a-breakfast page)
  • Donation drives (see donation drive page)
  • Seasonal baking for residents (at any of our sites)
  • Helping in day to day operations such as food services, hygiene, clothing or donation processing
  • Deep cleaning or building maintenance projects
  • Special events or projects

Groups will be provided with all items needed to perform their task, but are asked to wear closed toe, non-slip shoes and modest clothing. It is recommended that valuables be left at home, however a safe place for coats and bags will be provided. Groups who work with us through meals time, are welcome to enjoy the meal together with our family and other volunteers

Please contact the volunteer team to plan your group event. [email protected] or 250-388-7112 ext 243

School Group Volunteer Experiences

Our Place is pleased to facilitate School Groups and we strive to ensure the visit is enjoyable, rewarding and educational. The volunteer experience typically includes a tour of the facility with an explanation of our services and how we help our community. If time allows, a family member (client) may speak with the group about their life experience and answer questions.

Students will often help with:

  • Donation drives (see donation drive page)
  • Seasonal baking for residents (at any of our sites)
  • Helping in day to day operations such as food services or donation processing
  • Deep cleaning or building maintenance projects
  • Special events

Students 16 and older, with their chaperones may serve meals in our dining room however students 13- 15 are invited to work on projects away from our client base.  (Children under 13 may not volunteer in our building, however we suggest exploring donation drives or seasonal baking as alternate projects)  We recommend group size be less than 12, but we can accommodate larger groups at times.

Some high school leadership groups have committed to regular shifts through the school year.  These groups attend with their chaperones on a weekly basis and are a valued addition to our volunteer team.

Volunteers will be provided with all items needed to perform their task, but are asked to wear closed toe, non-slip shoes and modest clothing.
