Volunteer Coordinator
Job Purpose
Due to an internal repositioning we are seeking to fill the senior management position of Volunteer Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Operations, mobilizes and manages volunteers to enhance the vision and mission of Our Place and to introduce and ensure effective management practices and standards suitable to Our Place.
Reports to: Director of Operations
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Administration
- Develop procedures for volunteer involvement in Our Place
- Develop a budget to support the plan
- Maintain volunteer files
Design Volunteer Program
- Consult with staff and volunteers
- Assess volunteer needs
- Develop roles and assignments to meet assessed needs
Recruitment and Placement
- Recruit volunteers for specific roles and assignments
- Screen volunteers
- Match prospective volunteers with available opportunities and/or create new opportunities to meet organizational needs
- Responsible for volunteer orientation and training
Supervision and Monitoring
- Supervise volunteers for support and suitability
- Identify opportunities for volunteerism within organization
- Monitor volunteer personnel and positions
- Resolve issues related to volunteers and volunteer positions
Education and Experience
Candidates must have relevant experience in a related field (social service, volunteer coordination, not for profit organization). This position is an intermediate/senior level.
Relevant education at the post-secondary level is an asset.
Skills and Abilities
Professional skills should include proficiency in Microsoft programs, organizational structures, administration management, interview techniques, dispute resolution, recruitment techniques, personnel issue resolution and supervisory/training techniques.
Personal skills should include excellent interpersonal communication, flexibility, organizational routines, ability to work with a wide variety of people, team player and self-motivation.
Salary
This is a fulltime position (37.5 hours per week) with an excellent benefits package.
Rate of pay is commensurate with experience and education

Part Time Accounting Technician
-2 ½ to 3 days a week, This position is available May 1, 2008.
Reports to Director of Finance and Administration
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the accounting technician is primarily responsible for processing payroll and assisting in a variety of accounting and related administrative duties for the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process payroll in accordance with the BC Labour code. Processes benefit and leave transactions and payroll related liabilities and receivables.
- Processes accounts payable, issues cheques, verifies receipt of services, codes transactions, and enters information into the accounting system. Reviews contract to ensure maximum amounts are not exceeded, and that invoices received are valid for payment.
- Processes donations and accounts receivable transactions and prepares bank deposits.
- Reconciles accounts, account ledgers and daily balances.
- Provides a breakdown of financial and background information for reporting.
- Assists in maintaining the Chart of Accounts; identifies the need for and establishes new vendors or customers.
- Assists to develop, implement and maintain administrative policies and procedures on an ongoing basis; provides input to the development of policies; and documents own position’s processes and procedures.
- Assists in the mentoring of junior staff.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
To succeed in the position, an individual must have a combination of a minimum of five years of financial, administrative and payroll experience and possesses good spreadsheet and word processing skills. The individual must have a working understanding of BC labour law and payroll practices and processes. Must be able to work in a team setting, have excellent service quality skills and be able to maintain accuracy and high productivity in a time driven and demanding environment. Completion f the first year of a recognized accounting program is preferred.
