Position Overview:

This position provides assessment, and health care planning for residents in the Therapeutic Community.  Using the tools of the Therapeutic Community Model the TRC Nurse supports the residents in their health care needs while promoting community as method.  Develops, schedules and facilitates group education on ways to prevent disease and improve health.

This position assesses resident health problems and needs, develops and implements nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, or convalescent residents. May advise residents on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.

Duties:

  • Establish personal rapport with residents in order to fully understand their healthcare requirements.
  • Provide physical, psychological, and emotional support to residents.
  • Ensure compliance with nursing philosophies and therapeutic standards.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures to ensure a safe and clean patient environment.
  • Document and communicate actions or irregularities in order to maintain continuity among nursing team.
  • Protect resident information by maintaining confidentiality of resident test results and other sensitive document.
  • Maintain nursing inventory by checking stock to identify available supplies and determine the needs.
  • Comply with manufacturer’s guidelines when operating medical equipment.
  • Evaluate new equipment and study their mode of operation.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to communicate relevant information and work as a team to achieve a common objective.
  • Modify resident treatment plans to adjust to changing conditions and responses.
  • Monitor every aspect of patient healthcare, including their physical and emotional condition.
  • Proffer recommendations to individuals/groups on ways to prevent diseases and maintain good health.
  • Attend Morning, Evening, and Celebration and House meetings per schedule.
  • Participate in staff meetings and case conferences.
  • Role model behavioral expectations of dress, daily work habits, interpersonal communication, positive attitudes, temperament, emotional self-management and adherence to facility rules.
  • Administers medication.
  • Maintains standard documentation procedures of medical/medication records.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of a recognized nursing program.
  • Current, practicing registration with College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia preferred.
  • Practical Nursing Certificate.
  • Current registration and licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Certificates in CPR and Standard First Aid.
  • Recent, related experience of one year working with clients with addiction and/or mental illness.

Working Conditions/Compensation:

Shifts: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Casual shifts also available.

Wage: Licensed Practical Nurse – $27.84 to $32.12

Registered Nurse – $35.93 to $40.68

Excellent employer paid benefits after successful completion of 3 months of full-time employment.
