Youth Summer Job – Maintenance Worker

Full Time Maintenance Worker

The maintenance worker will perform regular scheduled maintenance and required repairs to Our Place – New Road facility, grounds and equipment. To assist with custodial duties, as required.

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs plan for youth and the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • is between 19 and 30 years of age (inclusive at the start of employment);
  • is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Details of the Position:

  • Compensation: $17.00 per hour
  • Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
  • Shifts: To Be Determined
  • Duration of Position: 8 weeks each
  • Positions Available: 1
  • Start Date: from Aug – Sept

Duties

Under the Direction of Facilities Manager:

  • Conduct regular maintenance and repair to structural, mechanical and electrical systems not requiring a ticketed tradesman, under the supervision of Maintenance Lead.
  • Painting, grounds and garden work.
  • Assist custodial team as required.
  • Maintains a professional yet compassionate relationship with family members.
  • Works cooperatively with other staff and to work alone responsibly.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education, Skills and Abilities

  • Previous experience and/or present educational path in related area and experience working with the homeless and First Nation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of building systems and safe operation of basic hand & power tools.
  • Willing to work a variety of shifts
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Willing and able to work comfortably in a team environment.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with marginalized populations an asset.
  • Act in a professional manner at all times.
  • Be adaptable and be comfortable working in a hectic environment that serves the marginalized population of Victoria.
