Victoria’s favourite baseball team to make summer extra special for community’s most vulnerable
VICTORIA, B.C. – Each summer, Our Place hosts a series of baseball games in Beacon Hill park to give Victoria’s most vulnerable a true summer experience. The Our Place kitchen staff brush off the barbeque, and Outreach Workers make everyone feel like family as we take a few hours to help people escape the challenges of living in poverty.
This year, however, is being made extra special as the Victoria HarbourCats are joining us for the first game of the season on Friday, July 6 at 11 a.m.
“The sports minded individuals that we serve at Our Place look forward to the baseball games every year,” says Don Evans, executive director of Our Place. “It provides them with a full day of fun activities in what can be a challenging life. We couldn’t be more thrilled this year to have the HarbourCats join us on the field for the first time, and to have their popular team mascot Harvey along to really ramp up the energy.”
“The HarbourCats are pleased to be involved in this fun event, and the players are excited to share their skills with fans who, through circumstance, don’t always get an opportunity to make the games,” said Jim Swanson, Managing Partner of the HarbourCats. “This is an important thing for us to be involved with, and is close to the heart of John Wilson, one of our owners, and the people with The Wilson’s Group of Companies.”
