Thanksgiving Meal at Our Place
Around 1,000 plates of home-cooked turkey and all the trimmings was served to Victoria’s most vulnerable citizens at Our Place’s family table for a special Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Through the generous support of donors, community groups and volunteers, local politicians and media representatives from TV, radio and print rolled up their sleeves to dish out a full meal of turkey, potatoes, garden veg and yummy dessert.
“Thanksgiving is a special time to be with loved ones. For many people who are struggling, we’re the closest family they have,” said Don Evans, executive director of Our Place. “We want everyone to feel a sense of belonging and enjoy a great meal.”
Our Place kitchen staff prepared 1,000 lbs of turkey, 500 lbs of potatoes, 250 lbs of stuffing, 200 lbs of vegetables, 25 gallons of gravy, 55 lbs of cranberry sauce, 125 pumpkin pies and 1,500 cups of coffee.
