Position Overview

Under the leadership of the Chaplain and Manager of Spiritual Care, the Spiritual Care Worker will provide inclusive spiritual care; providing resources and programs to support a variety of spiritual beliefs and faith traditions. The Spiritual Care team will work as a team to make spiritual care a vital part of the life of Our Place Society. The ability to work with and maintain a welcoming environment for a diverse population, including people with mental health issues and/or physical disabilities, people with substance use issues and Indigenous people is critical.

Duties & Responsibilities

Work directly with the population at Our Place to create a supportive community for nurturing spirituality and healing.
Support the spiritual needs of all spiritualties and faiths, and those with no particular spirituality or faith affiliation across all Our Place sites.
Provide culturally sensitive and inclusive spiritual care programing across all Our Place sites.
Liaise with a variety of community faith and cultural groups to provide links and encourage participation in the spiritual and faith life of the family at Our Place
Facilitate culturally appropriate and meaningful spiritual programing that nurture spiritual journeys and fosters relationships.
Work alongside spiritual care volunteers engaged in leading or assisting in spiritual care programs.
Hospital visits as needed.
Conduct memorial services as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chaplain and Manager.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any post-secondary education is an asset, although not essential, with preference in the human and social services field in a Degree, Diploma or Certificate program such as: BSW, Mental Health Worker, Community Health Worker, Mental Health and Addiction Worker and Social Services Worker.
Minimum two years recent related experience working with people experiencing homelessness, mental health issues and/or substance use issues, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience in providing spiritual care to people experiencing homelessness, mental health issues and/or substance use issues.
Demonstrated active participation in a spiritual practice and/or faith tradition.
Experience and understanding of a variety of spiritual beliefs and faith traditions.
Experience and understanding of homelessness, mental health Issues, and substance use issues.
Experience and understanding of Canadian Indigenous history, culture and ceremony.
Experience of working with the survivors of Indian Residential Schools and intergenerational trauma, is desirable, although not essential.
Experience integrating concepts of social justice, practical action and spiritual care.
Counselling skills are a definite asset.

Ability to facilitate a variety of spiritual care programming.
Ability to exercise guidance and oversight of spiritual matters.
Comfortable collaborating with a variety of spiritual beliefs and faith traditions.
Empathetic and the ability to offer spiritual care without value judgment.
Exemplary interpersonal skills, must display tact and diplomacy and be socially sensitive.
Demonstrated ability to work with challenging behavior and stressful situations.
Ability to work independently and show initiative and creativity.
Ability to deal in a positive collaborative fashion with individuals, family members and community contacts.
Strong problem solving, decision making, communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
Effective personal boundary setting skills with both family members and co-workers.
An established approach to personal self-care practices/activities.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid Certification, Trauma-Informed Care, and Mental Health First Aid training are an asset, if not they will be provided.

Working Conditions/Compensation:

Shifts: Full-time, 37.5 hours a week. Days and times TBD. May include some weekend and evening work.

Compensation: $25.37 to $30.88 per hour.

Benefits: 3 weeks’ vacation. Excellent benefits after successful completion of 3 months of full-time employment.
