Full Time Street Outreach Worker & Social Service Worker

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs plan for youth and the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  1. is between 19 and 30 years of age (inclusive at the start of employment);
  2. is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  3. is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Position  2 x Street Outreach Worker

Job Summary

The Outreach Worker participates directly in the provision of services, resolves difficult or sensitive issues or problems and maintains a welcoming environment for a diverse homeless population, including people with mental or physical disabilities, people with addictions, women and aboriginal people.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Outreach Manager, Team Lead or Outreach Team:

·         Acts as an advocate on behalf of family members, working for rightful justice and fair treatment, taking appropriate action to assist.

·         Monitors computer lab, hygiene area, drop-in floor, courtyard and bathrooms.

·         Maintains open lines of communication between various areas of OPS.

·         Maintains a professional yet compassionate relationship with family members.

·         Ensures program delivery is consistent with the OPS vision.

·         Summer position may have a specific project assignment as directed by the Manager.

·         Cross training in housing may be available.

Position  2 x Community and Social Services Worker

Job Summary

As part of the Housing and Shelter team, you will assist in the development and delivery of services and resources to support residents in formulating and implementing transitional plans, which promote independence.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Housing Manager, the RSW assists and supports individuals with developing independence in life skills including self-care, activities of daily living, addiction recovery, communication and interpersonal skills, socialization, money management, time management and community integration.

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • The Ideal candidate will be enrolled in a related undergraduate degree or diploma program with some courses or experience in mental illness/addictions/special needs and their related issues.
  • Programs such as: Mental Health and Addictions, Bachelor of Social Work, Community Social Services Worker Certificate Program or similar would be suitable.
  • Some experience working with marginalized populations is an asset, volunteer or paid.
  • Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness, mental illness and drug addiction.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Must display tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to problem solve and deal with conflict effectively.
