Position Overview
To work co-operatively and creatively with Residential Support Workers and Outreach Services and to provide assessment, community resource referrals, individual counselling, group psycho-education, and complex case planning for residents and other individuals we serve at Our Place Society.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Housing Manager:
• To assist the Residential Support Workers and Outreach with mental health and addiction assessments and ongoing case management for residents and family members well-being.
• In addition to initial assessment, the Mental Health and Addiction Clinician/Counsellor will be responsible for supporting and developing realistic, short-term and achievable plans with residents and family, in conjunction with Residential Support Workers and Outreach.
• To work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers.
• To attend Housing and Outreach staff meetings as appropriate and required.
• To facilitate or organize group training sessions related to issues associated with mental health and/or addiction.
• To develop and maintain working relationships with community partners that provides mental health and addiction support.
• Liaise with Health Authority (ACT Teams) and addiction treatment service providers.
• To perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
• Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Educational Psychology, Psychology or related field with a focus on mental health, substance use, and social issues often associated with homelessness.
• Familiar with the spectrum of substance use treatments ranging from Harm Reduction to Abstinence based practices.
• Registration with appropriate College in BC. Refer to the Health Canada Best Practices model for Concurrent Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders as a basis for working with and implementing case plans for residents.
• Excellent knowledge of community mental health and addiction resources.
• Related field experience with people living with mental health and/or addiction issues.
• Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness, marginalization, mental illness and drug addiction.
• Ability to work independently and show initiative and creativity.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, decision-making and problem solving.
• Ability to employ and develop behavior management plans.
• Experience with First Nations populations is an asset.
Working Conditions/Compensation:
• Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with experience.
• Excellent benefit package after 3 months.
• Hours of work will be 37.5 per week Monday to Friday
• Some occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
