As part of the residential support team, you will assist in the development and delivery of services and resources to support residents in formulating and implementing transitional plans, which promote independence.

Duties:

Under the direction of the Housing Manager, the RSW assists and supports individuals with developing independence in life skills including self-care, activities of daily living, addiction recovery, communication and interpersonal skills, socialization, money management, time management and community integration.

Education, Abilities and Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess a related undergraduate degree or related diploma with training in mental illness/ addictions/special needs and their related housing issues.  Programs such as:  Mental Health Worker, Community Health Worker, Social Service Worker Certificate Programs or equivalent experience.

Minimum one year of recent related experience working with people with mental health, addictions, and related housing issues or an equivalent combination of education, practicum training and experience.

Experience working with the aboriginal community would be a definite asset.

Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness, mental illness and drug addiction.

Strong computer skills.

Training in or knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques.

Knowledge of community services available to residents.

Ability to work independently and show initiative and creativity.

Ability to deal in a positive collaborative fashion with individuals, family members and community contacts.

HOURS:  casual and will primarily be for weekend coverage

Compensation: $18.37  per hour.
